Honey Bee Vandalism Community Aid

Donation protected
On two separate occasions, just days apart, vandals killed tens of thousands of essential honey bees at Grateful Acres Farm, just north of Ankeny, by smashing multiple beehive boxes with bricks. Due to the inclement weather and weakened hives, honey bee losses from these incursions may end up totaling hundreds of thousands. Jake, owner of Grateful Acres Farm, says not to worry, he will recover. However, I have kept bees in the past. I know how many dozens of hours it requires to maintain healthy hives every year. Also, I have known Jake for many moons so I have spent many hours watching him dovetail joints with love as he constructed perfect homes in which these friendly pollinators thrive. Putting the huge loss of bees aside, to see all of this hard work maliciously destroyed, literally, makes me sick to my stomach. Despite his optimism and undying grin, the loss of bee lives has caused him great suffering. Being the modest fellow that he is, Jake may be hesitant. However, after this appalling attack and with winter fast approaching it would be great to see the community show Grateful  Acres Farm some support (even if you just buy some of their honey ).
