Help bring a smile to little girl who lost her mom

It was one year ago that we shared the story of a Buffalo mom who was in desperate need of a kidney. Crystal Allen, 36, had been battling lupus since she was 19 years old and the disease took a toll on her organs. All she wished for was for more time with her 4-year-old daughter, J’adore, but Allen sadly passed away on Jan. 27.

In her story Allen said: “My daughter has grown up knowing that mommy goes to dialysis and sometimes the ‘hos-si-bo.’ My wish is to receive a transplant soon. I don’t want this to be a memory for her.’”

J’adore, which means “I love” in French, was a miracle for Allen who had her with her boyfriend, Joseph Wynn, in 2014. The three were very close and Wynn says Allen shined brighter than a diamond.“

She was intelligent and witty and that drew me even closer to her,” he said. The couple met seven years ago when they lived in the same apartment building. Allen was very sick from the day Wynn met her, but they were always hopeful her health would improve. Unfortunately the older she got, the more her health started to deteriorate.

“When we found out she was pregnant, Crystal knew it would be risky to have her because of her sickness. After she had her, her kidneys starting going and she started dialysis shortly after she had her,” said Wynn.

But while Allen was going through a terrible time health wise for years, Wynn said it never stopped her from being an amazing mom.“She was beautiful inside and out and she always put our daughter first,” he said.

“She was just a really sweet person who helped me if I needed something and I would do the same. I’ve never had anyone in my life like that before.”

The two knew that they probably wouldn’t be able to grow old together but they cherished the time their family had. Wynn says his daughter doesn’t really realize what has happened, but just says, “I miss mommy.”

“She kind of understands, but she doesn’t. We tell her mommy is in heaven now watching over her,” he said.

We at Sweet Buffalo would like to do something nice for J’adore in honor of her mom, so we are raising funds to purchase her a new bed, a toy box, and some games for her iPad, which her dad says she loves. If you would like to make a donation, you may do so here.
