Hi! My name is Kelley Brannon and I am starting a Go Fund me for Alberta "Berta" Brook! She is infamous for her sidewalk bbq's and I have known her since I started working just a few doors down way back in 2010, when Idlewild bar was called Bodega Wine Bar. She is an amazing person, always smiling and ready to compliment your outfit and give you good vibes.
Berta has been supportive of all the neighborhood change, never complaining, but she is also finding herself in a tough situation; in the midst of gentrification her landlord has raised her rent and she was about to have to move. However, she's trying to hang on and we need to help her do so! She is a fixture, an icon and the friendliest face on the block. She does not deserve to be pushed out. Also, she is recovering from a recent surgery which makes paying the new increased rent even more of a challenge. I will be posting a video and more photos soon, but wanted to get this started sooner than later.
She lives at 30 St. Nicholas Ave. Bushwick, Brooklyn. Catch her bbq, usually on weekend afternoons and say hi.
