Our brother, Nick, has been given the opportunity to participate in the 2019 Special Olympics World Games set for March 14-21 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. More than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will compete in 24 summer sports, along with 2,500 coaches and 20,000 volunteers. These will be the first Special Olympics World Games in the Middle East/North Africa region. The sports complexes are located throughout the United Arab Emirates. Nick will be competing in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Nick has participated in the Special Olympics, high school athletics, and other adaptive sports leagues for over 10 years. He is not only a huge sports fan, but he loves the camaraderie of the competitions. Recently, he earned a gold medal in the shot put event and, with a little luck on top of that, one of a limited number of spots in the Abu Dhabi World Games. Along with shot put, he will be running a track event. He is proud and excited to meet, compete against, and cheer on athletes from around the world.
Families at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 are the number one source of love, support, and encouragement to the athletes, and they will give the event great value and significance. While it is going to be incredible and so worthwhile, our parents and brother will need support in funding their trip. Every little bit helps! Special Olympics Michigan serves over 23,000 children and adults at no cost to their families, but they are not able to finance an opportunity of this scope. The funds from this fundraiser will go toward airfare, lodging, and ground transportation between complexes for our brother and parents. (Abu Dhabi and Dubai are approximately 90 miles, or 140 kilometers, apart.) Our parents Stephanie and Roger will be withdrawing the funds to be used for their expenses.
