Help A Man Who Has Given So Much

I’m going to try making this short but bear with me.. I had a call today that appeared to be animal neglect.. I was not happy.. at all. I wanted to see license and vetting information and the conversation got heated.. I received pushback and attitude. I heard stories from this man that I thought were excuses.. he was deflecting from the current issue at hand.. he had to be.. he wouldn’t stop talking about everything BUT the dogs. Told me he hasn’t had a full sleep in 7 years, he’s had heart attacks and strokes and his health was really bad. He said he had vet records and licenses BUT SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE.. and they lie! He told me he didn’t care if he died.. that he lives for his dogs and it’s the only reason for him being alive because he doesn’t have anyone who would take all four of his dogs and keep them together (as he started crying). Of course this guy is going to say all of this to make me feel sorry for him.. he’s not telling the truth.. OR IS HE?! So I want proof.. show me the registration papers! Nope, he wouldn’t.. he refused to walk upstairs and get them. I told him he needed to walk upstairs and get them and I wasn’t budging and told him without the proof, he was being ticketed.. period! I’m not going to sit here and be naive and let someone manipulate me. People always have stories and excuses and it gets tiring listening to the lies. He finally gave in and brought down this envelope full of paperwork that I riffled through.. rabies vaccines, microchip stickers, spay and neuter certificates, licenses.. he had it all. I had everything I needed on my end and left his house this evening knowing I was going to follow up with the police officer in the morning.
I got in my car and my head was spinning.. I was replaying everything he said to me. From the story about paying $187 to tow his vehicle two feet so it was no longer on his neighbor’s property.. to the recent harassment he’s received from code enforcement, how he’s never had problems with neighbors until now.. I thought about his poor health and the fact that he doesn’t have any help.. I thought about the comment he made from the dispatcher stating that the neighbors mentioned the transgender living upstairs.. so much of this made my head spin. Was this guy lying?! He had all of the paperwork he said he had and that never happens.. is this guy in poor health and that’s why his deck is covered in dog shit?!. Because he can’t properly care for them?! Has he not slept in 7 years and maybe doesn’t have the energy to let them out in the yard so the deck will do?! Has he had heart attacks and strokes and maybe that’s why he didn’t want to walk up the stairs to get the paperwork I requested?! Is this guy gay and the neighbors don’t like it?! Is this man being bullied?! Does this guy live for his dogs and care for them the best he can?! YES.. YES HE DOES!
I called him when I got home to get to the bottom of this because I couldn’t stop thinking about it. After a total of two hours, I learned a lot. This man has been a business owner and has helped people his entire life! The new neighbors have been picking on this man since they’ve moved in.. they’ve gotten his car towed, they’ve made him pay $187 to move his car TWO FEET so it was no longer on their property, they’ve turned him in for having a box truck in his driveway that acts as storage and hasn’t been bothered for 12 years. The “transgender” is actually a hermaphrodite who was born both sexes whom he helped when she was in an abusive relationship because he too had been abused and beaten as a child. WHY WOULD A NEIGHBOR EVEN BRING THIS UP?! This man has had the shittiest life.. I could go on with stories but I’ll save them right now. What I know now is that I met a man this evening who is amazing.. who has had a shit ass life yet still sees the positive in things and lives for his dogs! A man who has helped SO MANY people out of the kindness of his heart! A man who is okay dying right now if he knew his four dogs could be loved and could stay together. THIS KILLS ME! How can a man who has given SO MUCH be bullied and harassed?! I’m NOT okay knowing this and being okay knowing someone lives like this!
WHAT DO I NEED?! I need someone who can help put up fencing for this man so his dogs have an area to play in. I’d like to help him put up privacy fencing too! I need funding for the fencing, a permit and man labor (unless we can get this donated). I’m thinking $2500 will do the trick AND we need people to put it up! My thoughts are 6ft portable chainlink that will go up in a couple of hours with privacy fencing to block the neighbors. Who’s in to help with this?!
