Stop WestCONnex Legal Support Fund
Communities across Sydney have been fighting against the terrible WestCONnex toll road through all legal means available. Disturbingly, our state government refuses to listen and has started to destroy the homes and parks in the way.
We are asking supporters to donate to cover fines and legal costs of people charged while involved in non-violent direct action against westCONnex. All funds collected here will be used by No WestCONnex: Public Transport to cover these costs.
People who have received support from this fund include:
- The 'Haberfield 4' and the 'Ashfield 4': Adrienne Shilling, Paula Rix, Gabrielle Brown, Ruth Townley, Paul Jeffery, Chris Elenor, Bill Holliday and John Hyde.
- Cassi Plate, who locked on to a tree in Beverly Hills defending endangered forest.
- Still awaiting trial, Rozelle Against WestCONnex convenor Peter Hehir was arrested at a test drill site in Rozelle and will receive support from this fund.
- Three protesters were arrested in Holmwood St, Newtown. They have been offered support.
Early in 2017, seven more protesters were arrested defending homes and parkland in Sydney Park and St Peters. We offer them all our support from this fund.
Please donate generously to support this important cause.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you to everyone who has donated to the Legal Support Fund to help John's defence.
The case will be heard starting Monday August 7th and could have some interesting legal aspects around the new anti-protest laws and possible constitutional angles.
We invite supporters to join us at the Downing Centre Local court 4.8 in front of Magistrate K Robinson at 9.30am.
This fund is supporting Wendy and a number of other peaceful WestCONnex protesters. Thank you for your support.
We are pleased to tell you that we have just recently contributed $500 each to Glenys W, John B and Bronwyn V for their legal expenses. All of them were involved in Non-Violent Direct Action trying to stop the destruction of trees at Sydney Park on January 11th.
There is another chance to support activists coming soon at the Stop WestConnex Fundraiser on Tuesday April 11th from 6pm to 8pm at the New Theatre, 542 King St, Newtown. The event is being organised by WestConnex Action Group, Save Newtown from We$tconnex and No WestConnex - Public Transport.
