I never in my life thought I'd ever be creating a GoFundMe account to ask for help. Most of the time people are coming to me for help or I am on the other side of the computer donating anonymously to all kinds of causes especially those regarding children. I am grateful to have and to make use of this tool today. I have reached a moment now where I am stuck in a bind with a financial obligation that has brought uncertainty to the future of Ola's Herb Shop's operations.
Ola's Herb Shop is a wellness business, the first of it's kind in Pittsburgh, PA. We've been serving the community for over 5 years, working mostly in consultation, herbalism, healing, education and donation. Due to our success, we decided last year, to move from a humble small space, to a larger one where generous members of the community helped clean, paint and bring good energy to support in our expansion. Things were going extremely well...then...about 6-8 months into the new lease, we received an invoice stating that we were behind on our real estate taxes! Now, you may ask why I didn't read the lease or why should I pay since I don't own the property? Believe you me, I asked the same questions! In exploring with friends in high places, there was consensus that it's not nice but it's legal. In asking my landlord, he said, "It's in the lease but I didn't charge it in your smaller space because it was an insignificant number." Well, thanks.... I thought, if I knew this earlier, since you said it was the same lease different price, I would have refrained from relocation in the first place!
So friends......I have been trying to play catch up, you know how that game goes. Long story short, my landlord is tired of my delays and threatened that I pay up or move out by the beginning of next month. He's already cut the heat off! With all that we have put into the shop, I'd like to try my last hand at saving Ola's Herb Shop!
Ola's Herb Shop is really the community’s herb shop. It's a space where we work tirelessly to bring people nature's medicine. We're not in the business for large, corporate profits, rather to keep operating and maintaining a healthy livelihood. It would break my heart to imagine Pittsburgh without Ola's Herb Shop. It would break my heart to not fulfill the vision to create the next step in becoming the Herbal or Healing Co-op that I have been dreaming up with a select few. (Please lookout for our Kickstarter Campaign in the near future). The gratitude we would have in receiving your donation will not only pay our debt, it will keep Pittsburgh's Herb/Healing sacred space vibrant. Supporting Ola's Herb Shop resonates with community collaboration. Our focus is invested in the personal healing journey of community members and the growth of a new generation of healers.
