Clinical Voice Mission To Ghana
Donation protected
In 4 days, I will travel to Accra, Ghana where I will collaborate with the University of Ghana for two weeks to train its inaugural cohort of Speech-Language Therapists. Currently, there are only 7 SLPs in Ghana, all trained overseas. This training will advance the practice of voice disorders in Ghana for years to come. I’ll also treat patients with voice disorders in a masterclass format to develop the students’ clinical skills. We will conduct a mass screening for voice disorders in teachers, religious leaders, and broadcast journalists.
Please donate funds or clinic supplies. I would love your support in establishing clinical services for treatment of voice problems in Ghana. Funds will help purchase clinic resources such as textbooks on voice disorders, DVDs of voice therapy, diagrams and models of vocal anatomy, straws for voice therapy, and gloves, stopwatches, and flashlights for oral mech examinations.
We also hope to establish a travel scholarship for 1 Ghanaian student to receive short-term training abroad with a voice specialized speech-language therapist.
This trip is supported by the University of Ghana, OHSU, and AustralianAid.
