Fund Slocum House

$9,710 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 89 people in 6 months
Hello friends and allies,

After a year and a half of hard fought advocacy for immigrant families, a deal has finally been reached with Andrew Lunetta of A Tiny Home for Good to buy Slocum House. Organizers from the Workers Center of CNY together with Michael and Nick from Friends of Dorothy House, and an army of allies, were able to arrange purchase of Slocum House for $30,000.

Now we need to fund the project.

First a new name! Slocum House will become part of a community living project called Friends of Farmworkers.

There is a lot of work to be done! We need to raise $10,000 by June 30 to pay for utilities, insurance, maintenance and repairs, childproofing, and an integrated fire system.

With your help, Friends of Farmworkers will provide temporary housing for immigrant farmworkers, such as injured workers who need a safe, reliable place to stay in their time of need. Please join us in our goal of helping to maintain this essential space.

All levels of donations are welcome. Cash or check are also accepted and can be dropped off at the Workers Center of Central New York, 2013 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13210. If you are unable to donate at this time, keep an eye out for upcoming volunteer opportunities, and please share this donation page with all of your social networks!

Thank you for showing up for the immigrant community.

We just want to start this update by saying THANK YOU to all who have donated to this campaign or have spread the word about it. Thanks to you all we have a foundation to build from while undertaking the hard work of preparing Slocum House to become Friends of Farmworkers. Thanks to your generous donations, we have already started that process, as we have been able to purchase a washing machine, air conditioner, and pest-control supplies. This Saturday, August 11th, we will be beginning the long-overdue process of cleaning out and renovating the house. This will be an all hands on deck project that will not be completed in just one day, so we are hoping to attract as many volunteers as possible that are willing to lend a hand. We will also be able to purchase cleaning and renovation supplies with money from this campaign. If you are interested in helping out this Saturday morning between 10am and 2pm, please email Julie Dragonetti at dragonettij2@gmail.com. If you are interested in helping with this project but are not free this weekend, please email Julie to be put on a contact list of potential volunteers. And finally, please keep sharing this fundraiser! Although our initial goal was to raise $10,000 by the end of June, there are many expenses that lie ahead, many of which will be ongoing, such as utility, mortgage, and insurance costs. This is a community effort, and we need your continued support! Again, thank you so much to all who have contributed in any way to this project so far. Keep up the good work!

We still have so much work to do to get this house up and running and we will be organizing more fundraisers down the line. This first donation drive to our $10,000 goal is essential to the work that needs to be done getting this project off the ground, as well as helping with the first few months of utilities insurance, maintenance and repairs, childproofing, and an integrated fire system.

All levels of donations are welcome. Cash or check are also accepted, checks are not to be made out to the Workers' Center, please make checks out to Julie Dragonetti (the account host as there is not an account for slocum set up yet). Cash and Checks can be dropped off or mailed to the Workers Center of Central New York, 2013 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13210. If you are unable to donate at this time, keep an eye out for upcoming volunteer opportunities, and please share this donation page with all of your social networks!
