Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is the world’s leading development NGO that fights poverty through volunteers. They are unique in the way they bring people together to volunteer their knowledge, experience and skills in developing countries. VSO volunteers share their skills and expertise in areas such as finance, education, healthcare, HR, and business management.

Kilimanjaro Challenge 2019 - VSO & Randstad Partnership
I am super excited to say that I have been chosen to take part in a lifetime experience, to trek through the Tanzanian countryside including Kilimanjaro national park and to the summit of Mount Meru, all in aid of VSO. 30 Randstad employees worldwide will take part in this unique challenge, which will be the flagship event in 2019, celebrating 15 years in partnership with VSO. In order to participate in the challenge, each participant needs to raise 5000 Euro. The funds raised will make a huge impact to VSOs projects in Tanzania that specialize in supporting the employment prospects of marginalized
girls in Mwanza, in northern Tanzania.

The funds raised will:
1. Provide start-up kits for selected youth entrepreneurs to kick start their businesses
after their training. Every start-up kit will be different and in line with ambitions, talents
and needs of the youth entrepreneur.
2. Include Theater for a Change performances in the project as a key tool to enable girls
and young women to access the career pathways of their choice by addressing social
barriers that currently obstruct them from doing so. The theater performances are highly interactive and include a wide range of community members, including men and boys,
who can support girls and women to pursue the careers they envision by taking down
identified barriers. All performances end with a community action plan.
3. Run additional training cycles with girls and young women to increase the reach of the
project. The content of the courses will be based on demand and be in line with
outcomes from the jobs of the future analysis.
The Trek:
Day 1 - Hike from Kilimanjaro Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft) Elevation Gain: 915 meters, 3,000 feet
Day 2 - Arusha (1,400m) to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)
Day 3 - Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) to Saddle Hut (3,500m)
Day 4 - Saddle Hut (3,500m) - Summit Attempt (4,566m) - Miriakamba Hut (2,500m)
Day 5 - Miriakamba Hut (2,500m) – Kikuletwa Hot Springs - Arusha
Day 6 - 8 VSO village projects.
Note:
The funds raised completely goes to VSO and I am paying for my expenses to travel there. In order to add the conversion rate and the processing fees charged by Gofundme, I have put the fundraising amount as $6500.
