In response to the President's recent Executive Order halting the flow of Syrian refugees to St. Louis, let's show our support for local Syrian refugees  by helping them pay their airline fees.  (The US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants [USCRI] charges refugees for their airfare to the United States.  Some refugees have bills totalling $8,000, taking years to pay off).  Proceeds will be divided equally among St. Louis' Syrian refugee community and paid directly to the USCRI by the Timothy Lutheran Church Caring Ministries.

Thanks to all who are donating. You can imagine what it's like to be making $9-11 per hour and then have a $7,000 airfare bill hanging over your head. So, your donation is lifting an expensive burden from the refugees who are already here, and here legally, by the way.

Just to clarify: absolutely true that Syrians like all other refugees are required by the United Nation flight booking agency known as iOM to repay their plane tickets to US. Money is returned to a revolving fund that pays passage for newer groups. Refugees sign promissory notes to that affect before boarding flights overseas and sponsoring agency, in this case USCRI, is required to collect is and refund to iOM. So all refugees are receiving these bills and another city they might say USCCB (Catholic) or World Relief (Evangelical) instead of USCRI. Terrible burden for families but one actually faced by all refugees since 1980 when modern day refugee resettlement program developed and one we speak about frequently.

I'm ashamed of our president. No compassion.
