From Pain to Purpose

My children, Tayton and Tessa, tragically lost their father to suicide on October 4, 2016. You can imagine the weight of this loss on our family.
What started as a conversation between Tayton and I about his father and how we were both feeling, ended in the decision that we were going to go to Africa and help those who struggle with the basic needs of life, since we are, otherwise, so very fortunate. I believe that this could be such a great healing opportunity for my son. What better way to work on yourself, than by serving others who are less fortunate. And I LOVE that my son has a heart for serving. We are calling this projoct "From Pain to Purpose" because we are turning the healing of our pain into a higher purpose.
After much research, Tayton and I decided to go to Togo, Africa through a company called Projects Abroad. Projects Abroad has been helping people volunteer abroad for many years. Their programs are sound and their ratings are high. Tayton chose a program in Togo where we will be working on a small organic farm that supports an entire village. How fitting, right?
With the costs of the program (which includes all food, host family housing, travel insurance, medical insurance, etc) and the costs of the airfare, it is going to cost us over $8,000 to make this happen. It is a more expensive place to go because it is a small country and not well traveled. I told Tayton that if that is where his heart is than we will make it happen.
I am asking you, today, to help support "From Pain to Purpose". In doing this, you are not only supporting the healing of my son's heart but a small village in Togo, where every hand counts.
