Forest Park Blvd. Pillar Repair

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Neighbors-

As you may know by now, the Markers (stonework) at the entrance to Forest Park Blvd. at State St. northwest and southeast have each been hit by a car in the past several weeks. Both of this occurances happened late at night, both drivers left the scene and both caused significant damage. One of these pillars will be covered by insurance, the other is not. In addition, when we had the repairs quoted, it was noticed that the North East large column is in need of repair and is crumbling due to water damage.

It has not been possible to insure these pillars (due to exorbitant costs) and so the neighborhood association has saved money over the years (from dues and home tours) for this type of situation.

After receiving estimates from several parties, we have an estimate for repairing the pillars as well as including some new "preventative landscaping" (rocks, shrubs, etc). The estimate for our portion of all repair, preventative landscape and basic insurance coverage is $25,000. Our neighborhood association has $15,000 to contribute and we are asking residents on the Blvd. to contribute more as they are able. In addition we are reaching out to the public to raise  the final $10,000 to fully fund this repair and preventative work. We will also work closely with the city for their approval and recommendation on this project.

We will put any additional funds raised in escrow to only be used for insurance and repairs to the markers.

We are reaching out to you as we know so many of you care about our historic neighborhood, and want to see it continue to flourish. Whether you walk it occasionally (with or without your dog), drive by every day, work nearby, play at the park or just drive by on Christmas Eve - this is your neighborhood too!

Thank you for considering a contribution!
