The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans.
Hundreds of local American Legion programs and activities strengthen the nation one community at a time. Our Fishers Island American Legion Post 1045 was chartered in 1932 and has had an affiliated Sons Squadron and Auxiliary unit. The original charters are proudly framed and hang in the Legion today, reminding us all of the names still familiar to us all.
We are starting this Go Fund Me page to raise money for our Fishers Island American Legion, which is truly a vital part of our community.
The building needs repairs both inside and out including a new roof, boards for the deck and kitchen updates.
Our hope is that along with the new repairs we will strengthen our community bond, by hosting many island events and celebrations. Not only is this important for the year-round residents but the summer population too!
The American Legion Post 1045 looks forward to hosting you for everything from a quiet drink and holiday celebrations to charity events, private parties and BBQs.
