FEMMEBIT  is a triennial festival uniting an all-female roster of Los Angeles based artists working in video and new media. A celebration that acknowledges an interconnected wellspring of creativity and force majeure demanding recognition, FEMMEBIT highlights how women working with and between technologies enable progressive ideas through active creation; and how we, as proponents of these fields, must work together to shape, share, and grow a future receptive open to progress.

The inaugural FEMMEBIT 2016 united over 40 Los Angeles based artists. Varied in practice yet united in pursuit, these artists continue to challenge the status quo by utilizing technology as a tool to sculpt an empowered female form. Free to the public, FEMMEBIT spans 3 days of programming— premiering screenings, livestream broadcasts of panels and demos, as well as AR and VR experiences daily. Framing thematic, yet malleable narratives, each day of FEMMEBIT articulates a fluid medium. Showcasing artists ranging in career and media trajectories, FEMMEBIT elicits collective dialogues by placing a spectrum of creators in context with each other. FEMMEBIT returns with a second edition of all new programming in March 2019 to coincide with Women’s Month!

Our GoFundMe campaign was imperative to FEMMEBIT 2016 : 37 donors provided 50% of our $5,000 goal! Born through and as a group effort, FEMMEBIT is a platform built on and through championing support. By giving on any scale, YOU make FEMMEBIT happen. Plus... ALL DONATIONS MADE TO FEMMEBIT ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE

FEMMEBIT 2019 continues our mission to honor a responsibility to leveraging the power of art and activism to affect dialogue and change. Together we can and must shape a future valuing equality. Your presence and support allows us to sustain our commitment to representing women in the arts, to presenting exhibitions cultivating new genres, and to celebrating the artists who share the city we call home. Accelerating an accessible platform in a time when we should demand nothing less than gender balance, FEMMEBIT 2019 strives to guide and galvanize continuous action. Beyond a passion project, FEMMEBIT is dedicated to growing a future that not only recognizes the female voice, but provides a space for those voices to be seen and heard... within the art and tech markets and stretching far beyond.

Our partnership with Coaxial Arts Foundation provides even more incentive for you to give... and us to give back: all donations are tax-deductible and directly benefit FEMMEBIT 2019. We count on and value every contribution, on every scale. YOU make our efforts possible!

Excited to announce that Femmebit digital media festival will exhibit at Spring/Break for its Los Angeles debut during Frieze week! (Feb 15- 17). This year we will collaborate with Coaxial Arts Foundation. In case you’re unfamiliar: Spring/Break is a cool, give-or-take meta fair with playful DIY and professional installations that hint at ironic utopias + philosophical angst. The fair is based in NYC to exhibit during Armory week. They have launched their LA presence in secret until now.

Please also enjoy a lecture video of talented, Eileen Cowin, one of our exhibiting artists for Spring/Break LA!

“My presentation/performance/ event will combine my continuing investigation of narrative with my love of storytelling and film. I will be filming this performance of ‘readings’ and re-enactments.”

Eileen Cowin’s work has been presented in over 30 solo exhibitions and in more than 165 group exhibitions. Her mid-career survey show Still (and all) was mounted at Armory in 2000. Cowin has received numerous awards, among them a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a commission from the Public Art Fund in New York, an Individual Artist Grant from the City of Los Angeles, an Artist’s Fellowship in New Genres from the California Community Arts Foundation, and a California Community Foundation Fellowship
