Help us grow food for Flint children in our hands on learning gardens.
Hello my name is Vincent Smith and I played football at the University of Michigan and now my passion is growing food with Team Gardens .
We need your help! We are planting youth gardens in Flint. We are focusing working side by side with the youth and transforming empty lots. We need rain barrels, seeds, shovels, top soil, compost bins, learning activities and more!!
Your dollars fund gardens in Flint and create opportunities for young people to garden with positive role models. Vincent Smith and his other athlete friends are working side by side to teach youth how to garden and take care of their neighborhoods.
Help us extend our growing season from March to November with "hoop houses" to protect our crops.
Join the team and help us grow!
OUR MISSION
Team Gardens' mission to increase to access to healthy food, reduce junvenile crime and anti-social behaviors in a gardening based intervetion.
ABOUT OUR GOALS
You have heard about the water in Flint. Now let's talk about solutions. Increased nutrition and eating fresh vegetables helps get lead out of childrens bodies.
Having learning gardens increases the youth of Flint's access to healthy foods.
This is Joe and he participated in our youth outreach program in our first garden down in Florida.
WHY ATHLETES
We played football and everyone knows how the kids look up to us and copy us. We wanted to use our education to give back in a major way and have them start copying the good things.
Just by showing up, we as athletes can get youth excited to participate.
Athlete role models are perceived as important influencers to teens. Many teenagers look up to them for what’s “cool” in products and brands (Bush, 2004).
Effective health promotion and community empowerment may require the involvement of community lay health workers and active, respected community members (Wallerstein and Bernstein, 1988).
This is a group of volunteers at our first clean up day in Fall of 2015 behind Durrant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary School in Flint. We are Michigan fans and former U of M football players and Flint students.
WHAT WE NEED
Our minimum goal is $22,222. Our full goal is $109,901. If everyone at the stadium (capacity: 109,901) at one football game gave a dollar, we would reach our minimum goal.
Yes, I am the guy who got hit by Jadaveon Clowney in the Sugar Bowl. If everyone who watched the clowney hit on youtube gave a dollar we could fund this project years.
We need funding for things like tools, seeds, and plants. We need stipends for members of the community to work and help grow and train people.
Email us if you can help with supplies.
We need the resources to reach as many youth as possible to get them eating as many vegetables as possible. We need to work together and grow.
BE SUPER COOL
Join us. We have our #EATING shirts as rewards. They are pretty much the coolest shirt that can support your team and support your community. Wear one and let everyone know what we are doing.
