Skye Half Marathon for the Linda Norgrove Foundation

Hi, I'm Sophie and I'm from Uig where the Linda Norgrove Foundation is based. I am running the Skye Half Marathon on June 14th to raise money for a charity close to my heart.

The Linda Norgrove Foundation was established in memory of Scottish aid worker Linda Norgrove, who was dedicated to helping the people of Afghanistan achieve prosperity and stability. Tragically, Linda was kidnapped and died during a failed rescue attempt in Afghanistan in October 2010. Her legacy lives on through the foundation, which is run by her parents, John and Lorna Norgrove, along with four other voluntary trustees. They are supported by two part-time female employees, one based at the office in Mangersta and an Afghan woman who monitors and report on projects within the country.

The foundation focuses on improving the lives of disadvantaged women and children in Afghanistan by:

Funding life changing surgeries for women and children
Refurbishing an orphanage and covering the running costs
Providing scholarships for primary school aged girls
Offering classes for underprivileged children in IDP camps
Establishing libraries and providing educational material in Braille
Offering vocational training for women to help them become self-sustaining
Funding a mother and baby clinic in Herat
Providing emergency aid over the winter months

Afghan women face significant challenges and need our support to build better futures for themselves and their families. Your donation can make a real difference in their lives.

Please consider supporting my run and donating to this worthy cause. Every contribution helps.
