Hi my name is Debbie, I live with my 81 year old dad, who battles diabetes, was diagnosed with RO Dementia in 2022 and have become his full time caregiver. My dad has always been extremely independent, hard working, an amazing grandfather to his grandkids, and a second pepere to my daycare children. My dad has a heart of gold! He would give the shirt off his back to help someone. On March 11th he took a fall at home and broke his hip. It has been devastating for our entire family. Surgery was done and now is recovery time. As we try to navigate to our new life and the many unexpected changes, the financial burden is harder than anticipated. Some Medicare supplies have been loaned, Im so grateful for that. But there is so much more needed for my father to return home and have all the things needed to help keep him comfortable, and to allow him to continue to live as comfortable in his home as possible. Asking for help is something very difficult for me to do, I’ve been alone providing care and support for him solely for the past 11 years, covering all his diabetic medical supplies that is not covered by the NB drug plan, that includes glucose sensors at almost 100$ every two weeks, testing strips, foot care, clothing, medication that is not covered. I provide financially for all his essential need’s. I do this all being self employed . And sadly with him falling and breaking his hip, this has caused a set back financially for me. Any help is much appreciated and would help me to provide the best care that he deserves in our home. Keeping him home as long as I can with me and his grandkids is a privilege and a blessing.
