UPDATE:
Hello everyone! I just wanted to update everyone on my brother's stage 3b colon cancer diagnosis, and to also offer a huge "Thank You" to you who have supported me. It really means a lot to have the love and care of so many, whether financial or just listening.
As you know, I was going to move to North Carolina to help my younger brother care for Steve. We had planned to move him into his own place while he went through treatment. It has turned out that Steve needs much more care than we anticipated, as his memory and confusion challenges really made themselves known, as we've navigated through this process. To keep it short, he wound up back in the hospital and ultimately into another rehab two days after going home. He had prematurely tried to return to work, when he should've been in home health care and on FMLA. That changed my original move plans, as it was difficult to tell where he was going to wind up. He is currently in a nursing home in Clearwater, for the time being. My younger brother tried getting him into a facility in North Carolina, but he was turned down twice. Frankly, no one really wants an out-of-state patient with cancer AND stroke history with its dementia symptoms.
I've now flown up the Florida twice to assist with getting him situated, cleaning out his apartment, and meeting with his doctors, and billing folks from the hospital. My brother has gone there three times. Steve has an appointment tomorrow with his cancer doctor to discuss his CT Scan results and Signtera test results.
All that being said, these donations have been sitting unused because I didn't think it fair and honest to ask for help with a move, and wind up not moving. It has still been highly expensive to keep hopping on planes, getting hotel rooms and rental cars every month and a half, and paying for my brother's transportation to treatment. We truly have no idea where the financial "bottom" is. I'm frankly to scared to speculate. For us right now, it's a day at a time.
So...if you are okay with my using these funds to help pay for all the flying back and forth, and for other needs surrounding his care, rather than the move, I would certainly appreciate it. Otherwise, if you'd like for me to refund your donation, I completely understand. Just reach out to me ASAP so I can do that for you. I just want to be as transparent as possible regarding what's going on. Some of you already know my thought around this, as I've kept you in the loop. Others don't, which is the reason for this update.
Thanks again for all of you who donated. Gid bless each and every one of you.
So, some of you in my circle of friends have heard my brother, Steve, was just diagnosed with colon cancer (Get that colonoscopy, folks...seriously!!). Without it getting too convoluted, he lives alone in Florida, while my younger brother lives in North Carolina. We want to get Steve to North Carolina as soon as poosible, before treatment starts. I really need to go there, as well, to help support them both. To say this is totally overwhelming is an understatement.
That being said, I'm asking for help with my move, so David can focus on Steve's. ANY amount helps. Moving costs a LOT, as everyone knows. Moving halfway across the country is monumentalfor me. Yet, my family needs me. Thank you for any help you can give. God bless you!
