You probably heard about the devastating crime a month ago in Sharjah, UAE, where a man killed his wife by stabbing her multiple times.

You probably didn't hear that the man was also married to another woman. That woman is my sister!

My sister and her two children, 14 and 12, were subjected to the same violent and abusive treatment for the last few years. My sister tried multiple times to uncover the truth about his life and every time she asked for a divorce, she and the kids were faced with violence and abuse.

While we are devastated to hear the news of the killing, we are lucky my sister and her two kids made it out alive and are planning to move on with their lives.

This is proving to be difficult for them as he was the main breadwinner, he never let my sister work and he left them with a massive balance of outstanding payments and debts.

My father is trying to help them financially but my father had already given the man around $100,000 to help the family survive the financial difficulties of the last two years. Now, my father has no hope of getting that money, which was his life's savings, back.

My sister is a very bright and courageous woman. I have all confidence that she will bounce back stronger from this traumatic event. It is our hope that donations to this fund will offer my sister's family some financial relief at a time when they should not have to worry about paying bills and rent. This fund will help the family have some room to concentrate on healing from the loss of their father and his damaging actions and allow them to start a new life from an equitable place.

For the sake of transparency, below is a list of the outstanding balances and upcoming payments due in the next couple of months. These are all in CAD as I will be collecting the funds in Canada, where I live, and transferring them to my sister :

School Tuition for last year and this year: CAD37,000

Car Rental (Now returned, but this is a car that was rented under my sister's name and has an outstanding balance): CAD3,000

House Rent & Utilities: CAD22,000

Living expenses for six months: CAD10,000

Passports (their passports have expired and they can't register in school or get a job): CAD2000

Therapy for children (six sessions each): CAD3,000

For the sake of their safety, I am not mentioning the names of either my sister or her children.
