My name is Caden Gregory. Three years ago, God radically saved my life, and now I’m doing my best to give it back to Him.

Here in January, a team of 17 and I will be spending roughly a week in Guatemala. Our time spent here will be very fruitful. Eighteen different churches are represented through this mission of giving back. We plan to bring needed supplies such as glasses to read, toothbrushes, prenatal vitamins, de-wormer pills, ONIL stoves, and water filtration systems.

Here are a few statistics as to what we plan to address:

Around 95% of water sources in Guatemala are contaminated, especially in rural areas.

Over 40% of rural families don’t have access to piped water.

This water leads to various diseases.

Around half of Guatemalan households still cook over open fires. These are usually indoors with poor ventilation.

Women and children breathe in toxic smoke for hours a day, leading to chronic respiratory infections, eye damage, and burn injuries. It’s estimated that indoor air pollution causes more deaths than unsafe water in some communities. Families rely heavily on wood for fuel, which leads to rapid deforestation, increased time and labor for collecting firewood, soil erosion, and landslides.

The average daily wage for rural Guatemala is $2.
