Sensory Garden Project

Donation protected
My name is Zoe Sockriter, I am 17 years old, and I am in American Heritage Girls Troop CO1027, Franktown, Colorado. The highest award a girl can get is the Stars and Stripes project, and I want to create a sensory garden for children with disabilities within my community. The garden includes different plants they can look at, feel, and smell. While in the garden they can also listen, enjoy the serenity, and just get away from everyday activities. The garden will be located along the new trail in Evans Park in Elizabeth, Colorado. This sensory garden will improve the park, bring together community members, and allow them to immerse themselves in nature.

This project will impact not only the children with disabilities within Elizabeth & Kiowa, who inspired me to make this garden but all the residents of both communities. It will impact all with disabilities in a positive way. I expect this project will have longevity in the community, and I expect this garden will stay in Evans park for as long as the park and trail is there.

With the help of the community, I have budgeted $2,300 to create this garden.  This garden gives our community to come back together and work together to create something beautiful.  Because of COVID-19, the community has come apart and no one wants to come together. With this garden I want the whole community to come back together to make a change for the better.
