A Home for Christmas

Donation protected
7 years ago Kym and Brady felt prompted to sell their beautiful home in Spanish Fork even though there was no apparent reason to do so. We are so grateful that they followed that prompting because it put them on the path to care for Grandma Rowley in her final years when she required around-the-clock loving care. To thank Kym for her years of tender service, when Grandma Rowley passed on her daughters generously gifted Kym and Brady enough of the home that they could afford a loan to buy the rest and make needed repairs. Sadly their repair money ended up having to go almost immediately to medical bills. Never one to be discouraged Kym didn’t give up on the house, she just continued to work and save. Finally at the beginning of this year she was able to start work on some of the big projects. They redid the failing plumbing, fixed the flood damage it had caused, and updated any unsafe elements of the electrical. With these necessary repairs complete, Kym then turned her attention to the basement. The basement is actually a very meaningful project to her. Kym loves her children and her extended family, and she desperately wants a place for her kids to play and her family to gather. When they began work on the basement they discovered a large (now repaired) crack in the foundation that had leaked enough water to mold every floor and wall in the entire basement. The extent of the damage to the walls had until this point been hidden because they were behind paneling. What started out as a simple clean, repair, and light remodel turned instead to a full basement gutting. And Kym was devastated. Because she was not planning on needing to buy new walls and it simply was not in the budget.
There is something you should know about Kym. She loves being a homemaker and a caretaker and she is the absolute glue that holds our whole family together. She is constantly giving service and is the first one all of us turn to when we need help. Now she needed our help. To allow their funds stretch a little further all of Kym’s siblings started coming down every weekend to help in the basement. Our intention was to finish it by Christmas and we have achieved a ton. We have demolished and cleaned up countless walls. We have framed and insulated, and repaired even more electrical laid bare by the demolition. But we are getting stuck. Some jobs, like mudding and carpet laying are simply beyond our skill set. And we are running out of funds. I sat down with Kym and we made an estimate of how much money it would take to finish the job. I then asked how long she thought it would take to save that. Her guess was 2-3 years. I cannot stand the thought of her waiting that long. Kym has already sacrificed so much to care first for Grandma Rowley, and now for her own parents who live right next door and who now also require constant care. Her children have sacrificed so much. Their toys went into storage 7 years ago, they have no place in the house to have friends over, Samantha sleeps on a couch, and they never complain! Because they are wonderful just like their parents, and are happy to be near their grandparents where they can help. But they are longing for a finished home. And we are desperate for them to have it before Blake graduates and before Samantha is no longer a child. So with that in mind I am starting this go fund me. The money would go towards new flooring in the basement and a contractor to mud and tape, and finish up some of the more complicated plumbing and electrical elements. This money would allow Kym and Brady to have a home for Christmas, and I can’t think of a single family more deserving.
