Upon entering into Dean Park and following the road past a pavilion and a grandstand area sits the beloved main ball field watched over by the Memorial to Bobby Zona. To the right of that field sits a flagpole and bench that was loving imagined, designed, and ultimately installed by the family and friends of the late Paula Rourke, a longtime employee of the Town of Shrewsbury Parks Department. Paula was just one part of an incredible group of Town Employees, who helped form the Parks & Recreation Department into what it is today. The group was led by Parks Director Gary Hardenbrook and included Dawn Shannon, Ginnie Pierce and Paula. To honor these employees who gave so much to the Town the goal is to now redesign the current area to include benches for Gary and Dawn and to relocate an existing bench for Ginnie. The redesign will not only include the new benches and relocation of one bench but also decorative landscaping and will continue to include 24 hour a day illumination of the flagpole. This area will be a fitting tribute to memorialize and show appreciation for these Town employees in an area that they all loved and that the town continues to love.
