Zip Wire for #bathersbeatscancer

Donation protected

Hi,

My name is Anne Bate-Williams and I am raising funds for my son in law Stuart Bathers who was diagnosed just over six months ago with a life threatening, inoperable, grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour (GBM).

I am hoping to raise some more much needed funds to help Stuart with a treatment at a pioneering centre in Germany called CeGat.

My daughter Esther and other members of our two families, along side close friends have been researching other treatments aside from those available on the NHS, in order to prolong Stu's life. From their research, alternative treatments have been discovered which have helped others with a similar diagnosis and who are now in remission.

The treatment involves DNA sequencing only available in Germany, where they produce a unique and tailored peptide immunotherapy vaccine, specific to Stuart's genetic mutation which will offer him the best chance of life in remission.

The treatment is expensive and not available on the NHS. For the evaluation of the biopsy, it cost 10,000 euros and the treatment itself will be around 50,000 euros. They will need to to travel to Germany for the vaccine to be administered, over an extended period. So along with Stuart's treatment, regular flights and accommodation whilst in Germany the cost will be high. Thankfully they now have dates for the first four day appointment at the beginning of September.

Stu and Esther's family and friends came up with many innovative ways to raise funds, including sponsored runs, long distance bike rides, leg waxes, climbing Snowdon, creating charity events and an online auction with amazing, gifted prizes. We are so grateful that they have been successful in approaching the original target but it still needs a boost.

I have booked a Zip Wire ride at The Zip World Slate Quarries in North Wales on the 11th October at 10.00 which I am hoping will add to the fundraising. This isn't something I would choose to do for pleasure, even as a child I avoided any of those thrill seeking rides at fairgrounds. In fact the morning after I booked it, I woke up thinking. What have I done!! I believe the zip wire is 1,400 feet high and 1 km long, I'll be wearing a camera so the experience will be filmed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for your support.
