Help Fund Legal Defense for Ziggie's Music

For the past 92 years, Ziggie's Music has served musicians across the valley. My grandfather Ziggie founded the store in 1927. When he died my grandmother took over, and being a homemaker, she had no idea how to run it. Fresh out of high school, I volunteered to run the store (with almost no pay) and took care of my grandmother so she could have an income. In the 30 years since she died, I have run the business alone, paid the bills and taxes, made improvements and repairs, and built Ziggie's into what you see today.
Ziggie's Music is widely known in Arizona as a seller of accordions, guitars, amplifiers, and instruments for Latin music such as Bajo Sextos. Ziggie's brings the AZ music community together every month for its First Saturdays swap meets. Ziggie's serves an important niche as being one of the few places in the valley offering repairs and services of accordions. Countless youth and adults have learned how to play various instruments from the instructors there. Ziggie's has helped the local community, including some schools with musical supplies and services.
Ziggie's Music holds a long historical significance in Arizona. Examples include Duane Eddy receiving his favorite guitar, Al Casey teaching lessons near the end of his life, having an iconic building in Downtown Phoenix, and having one of the few remaining neon signs in Arizona (newly refurbished).
Now, Ziggie's needs your help. Over the past couple of years, Ziggie's has run into a sudden crisis. Ziggie’s long-time home is a building originally owned by my grandfather. Now it’s owned half by me, and half by my cousins. They have never been involved in Ziggie’s and don’t care about its place in the community. Two years ago, after my uncle died, they began demanding that the building be sold so they could “cash out”—even though they haven’t ever helped maintain or pay for the building over the years. Ziggie’s has never been about the money for me, but now I’m faced with a legal fight that could shut Ziggie’s down. I’m looking at having to sell my home to keep from closing Ziggie’s.
This fund is set up for legal defense fees, so we can fight my cousins’ unjust lawsuit and try to keep Ziggie’s where it has been for decades.
