My goal is to help our handsome, loving son and all other autistic children to find their voices and be heard.
The past 4 years have been quite a journey. I spend my days caring for my son while contemplating the next step, hoping and praying that one day he will be able to utter the words “I love you, Mommy” or “Mommy, I want that”.
My greatest fear is watching my son grow up without being able to vocally express himself – especially in a society that does not value black boys/men. It is one of the reasons I wake up every day, mustering the courage to persist, striving to find ways to help him heal.
At some point during my journey of research, I decided to establish an organization to educate and support other families. The organization will provide vital and timely information to navigate the dark, despondent spaces we sometimes find ourselves in, lacking credible answers and often losing hope. My intent is to initiate a series of workshops with experts that can teach other families about biomed, nutrition, ABA and stem cell therapy and all the innovative treatments that can potentially make a difference in an autistic child’s life. Above all, it will provide a platform for parents to exchange information, receive support and sustain the hope that is critical to our children’s wellbeing.
But first, I will need to raise the necessary funds to start the process. I designed a unique tee shirt that captures the struggles of young black boys – with or without autism – and hope the message resonates with the public. A portion of the proceeds from the shirts will fund my son’s experimental treatments while the rest will support other families struggling with the same exorbitant cost of autism treatments and therapies.
My hope is to document and share my son’s progress so other families in similar situations can learn and benefit from our struggles in finding solutions to the silent nightmare that torments us.
