Help Feed The Poor In Greece

Donation protected
I can no longer sit back and do nothing for my ancestral homeland.  As we all know, Greece is in a financial crisis, one that could eventually cause the country to collapse and become bankrupt.  I am proud of my Greek heritage and as first generation in the United States, I am grateful and blessed to live in a country with so many freedoms and rights. But unfortunately I am saddened by the current humanitarian crisis affecting the people.  These people are my people.  They share the same language as my ancestors, the same language I first spoke.  These people share the land my father once walked.  Greece is the birthplace of civilization, democracy, philosophy, medicine.....everything that we have studied and continue to use in our daily lives. These are gifts to humanity.  And now I need to return something to the country, to the people, to humanity.  I am traveling to Greece at the end of the month (July) for two weeks to visit family and immerse myself once again in the language, culture and beauty of the land and the people. It has been 5 years since my last visit, which was the start of the debt crisis.  My trip was gifted to me by my immediate family for my birthday.  While sitting at home and reading article after article about the increase of food pantry use and soup kitchens inundated with new visitors , I couldn't stop and think, "how can I help"?  And this is where I am now, an hour later, asking for your help in this matter.  If I could I would collect canned foods to take overseas, which is currently not possible with weight limits and time.  The other possibility I have is to collect money and personally visit local markets and purchase items needed and make donations to soup kitchens.  As you may know, I have a personal and professional love for food.  Working in public health as a Nutritionist, I educate and coach low income families on the importance of good nutrition to sustain health and wellness.  No one should go hungry. My father was hungry and left his home to find food, I do not want to see others leave too.  If you are able to help in any way it would be much appreciated.  I understand the needs of our  country and urge  you to follow my lead and make a donation to your local food pantries.  The need is worldwide!  "Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor". Proverbs 22:9.    I thank you for your support.  ( I will keep you updated with photos from my visit to markets and pantries).
