Zara’s world challenge to Nepal

Hello, my name is Zara, In July 2024 I will be travelling to Nepal with my school and world challenge to complete this extraordinary experience and truly make a difference. These experiences complement school learning, giving students the opportunity to become true life-learners and true global citizens. I will be travelling to Kathmandu and spending time in the countryside taking part in a gender equality initiative by living and working alongside an all female farming community and contributing to a project that aims to improve the lives of Nepali women. We will be learning how farming supports the women and their families and we glean skills from the locals as they tend their crops and carry out renovation work on their farm. This is a side of Nepal that few tourists see. Rural life can be very tough and I will have none of the comforts that I am used to at home. I am grabbing this opportunity to connect with the locals and learn about their lives. I will be immersed in different cultures and experiences, growing to understand my role within the global community. I will be challenged to think critically about topical issues that affect the past, present and future around the world. I have chosen to do this so that I can help to make a difference in the world and see parts of peoples lives that I may have been oblivious to previously. Part of my challenge is to self fund this trip and to raise £4,000 by May 2024. So far I have raised £2,000 by offering my help to my local neighbourhood for a small contribution, organised fundraising, selling my unwanted clothes and I have put all my birthday towards this so that I can generate the funds.
