Foodbanks Part III: One dyke. One bike. 100 miles.
Donation protected
Once again, thanks to a lack of support from central government for people hardest hit by the pandemic, and by austerity politics before it, the foodbanks in Western Ward are in dire need of financial assistance.
As one of the three Councillors for Western Ward I've found myself often beating my head against a wall to get funds released, so I've decided to take matters into my own hands for a third time.
The target this time is £3000. So, to raise money for them, I've set myself a challenge:
An imperial century (100mi / 160km) on my bike. That I built myself. In one day.
Why am I doing this? Well, last April I caught coronavirus. This absolutely knocked hell out of my fitness and left me barely able to cycle a few kilometres at a time. Since then though I've made a (nearly) full recovery and I want to push myself. This seems like a good challenge to me. I hope you agree!
This is the route. Along National Cycle Network Route 6 for a fair bit of the way, then peeling off to follow the Trent valley downstream to Lincoln, where I'll be getting the train home!
There will be selfies. There will be shenanigans.
And there's dire need in my ward as bad as there has ever been. Please share far and wide and let's hit our target!
