A new van for Chuy
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m fundraising for a widower named Mr. Tafoya who also goes by "Chuy". I’ve seen him at the park feeding his severely autistic adult son Aiden for many months now. I started talking to him because my son Page loves to say hello to him and that’s how my husband and I learned more about the challenges he faces daily. We see him often and every time he offers my son and I food, water, hand sanitizer, you name it. He doesn’t have much but what he does he offers to Page and I. How often do you come across someone like that?
Chuy mentioned that he's been looking for a van because Aiden is able to reach over and pull on his clothes and strike him while he's driving. If he had a van Aiden wouldn't be able to reach him. He also has an adult daughter who tries to help him watch his son as often as possible so he can take a break. But he recently told me he goes to Home Depot instead to try and find day labor gigs. I'd like to raise this money fairly quickly because it has to do with safety while he's on the road. I can't fathom everything that keeps him up at night but the one fear I do know about is not knowing who will take over the care for his son when he's no longer here. This man deserves something good to happen in his life. I'd like to at the very least try to help him on a down payment for a van.
I know what I'm trying to do won't be life changing but if I could help him just a bit it would mean so much to me and if I could get you to share his story it would mean the world to me. When Page is old enough to understand I can tell him how we helped a kindhearted man. Ultimately this will be an example about kindness and empathy and how it matters.
Thank you for reading,
Marina
