Support the family of a fallen hero of Israel.
My name is Yossi, and I am fundraising for the family of my brother's friend, Sergeant-Major Yuval Nir, who fell fighting in Gaza on January 30th, 2024.
Yuval, who was 43, lived in Kibbutz Kfar Etzion with his wife Ayala and their five children: Alon, Shachar, Ofri, Yagel and Roi.
He was a loving family man, and a brave warrior. He started his service in the IDF in 1999, and served with my brother Efi, in the paratroopers' commando unit. After his mandatory service he went back to civilian life, but kept serving in a reserve command unit, and always came back when he was needed. And so, for 25 years, he was always there, at the front - in previous operations in Gaza, and many other places up and down the country.
He was deeply affected by the tragedy of Oct 7th, and could not come to terms with the army's failure to defend the civilians in the south. His wife's parents have been unable to return to their home, in Kibbutz Sa'ad, since that day.
Since he's turned 40 he's been exempt from being called up. But his sense of duty wouldn't let him stay home after what happened on October 7th. He volunteered for service, and has been fighting in Gaza for the last three months.
On the day he fell, his unit was searching a house, and took fire from terrorists who were hiding under a blanket. They've extricated themselves out of the house, but when realizing that one of them is missing, and fearing he is injured or might be kidnapped, they went back into the house, knowing full well armed terrorists were in there, waiting for them.
During this rescue attempt, Yuval fell :
The grief at his passing is deep and widespread :
His friend, Amitai Roitman, told 103fm radio:
It's one of the greatest losses I've experienced. Yuval was an angel on earth, truly, a very modest man with deep
values. At 43, he acted with the humility of a 20-year old soldier, since his days in the Paratroopers' commando. He maintain his physical and mental sharpness, and was always happy to serve at the very front. A few days ago I met him and told him to watch himself. He told me "Don't be worried, I have a chance to be a loyal soldier of Am Israel, I'm happy".
I am setting this page at the request of Yuval's comrades and friends, to collect money for the family he left behind.
