Caring By Design is comprised of volunteers whose primary efforts are to refurbish the Boston Ronald McDonald House Boston. For many years, these professionals have secured donations and favorable pricing on goods and services to enhance the living spaces at the House. They also help by fundraising to defray the costs of these projects.
Since 1979 the Boston Ronald McDonald House has served as a “home-away-from-home” for children with cancer and their families located in walking distance to Children’s Hospital Boston and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund Clinic. The House can accommodate up to 22 families each night. As an essential part of their overall care, the House provides its guests with low-cost and convenient accommodations in a safe and comfortable home-like setting. Children, families, and caregivers find comfort and support among staff, volunteers, and other families facing the life-changing realities of childhood cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses.
Since the House opened, McDonald’s Corporation, local Owner/Operators, McDonald’s vendors, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England have generously provided financial and in-kind support for 10% of the annual operating budget. The House is responsible for the remaining 90% and most of those funds comes from individuals, including families who have stayed at the House and want to give something back; other funding comes from generous corporations, foundations, and religious and civic groups. Caring By Design is one of those groups who continue to help the House with projects that keep the warm and friendly atmosphere a loving enviornment for all who stay there.
