The Prophet Muhammad SAW said “Whoever builds a masjid for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow’s nest or even smaller, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 738, Book 4 Hadith 4)

The Muslim Community of Northumberland (MCN) is on a mission to build the first official masjid located in Northumberland County. Alhamdullilah, the MCN has recently signed an offer for a property in Cobourg, Ontario, and has only 60 DAYS to raise $2.7 million to complete the purchase.

From praying in each other’s houses, to the basements of local stores, the MCN has steadily grown from 4 families to 500 people in just over a decade. Our current temporary masjid, Masjid Al-Ghafoor, was built 3 years ago out of a renovated office space, but has since become too small for our needs. We host a variety of programs for men, women, and youth, including a part-time Islamic school for grade 1-9 students. Our community regularly gathers throughout the year for special events and lectures, Ramadan iftars, and Eid celebrations. This new property will allow us to accommodate and expand these programs that keep our community thriving.

Most importantly, contributions to our masjid fund will provide us with the space to worship comfortably and collectively. With your help, we can build a masjid that accommodates our growing lines of prayer. We will be able to create dedicated classrooms with desks and storage space for our school, empowering our students and teachers with knowledge. And finally, we’ll be able to build a women’s section in the masjid, no longer having to section off a tiny corner to pray.

Giving towards our masjid is not just a donation—it is a Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity). Every salah prayed, every letter of Qur’an recited, every child who learns about Islam, and every heart that finds peace in that space will add to your scale of good deeds, even after you leave this world.
