We are a group of concerned citizens of the Town of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, who are aggrieved by the recent Land Court decision enabling the owner of the Bali Hai restaurant to tear down the structure, and replace it with a 23-unit condominium complex.
We believe the Lynnfield Zoning Board, and the Lynnfield Zoning Board of Appeals, each denied the owner/developer a permit for good reason: that constructing an apartment complex on the site of the Bali Hai, was likely to have a substantially detrimental impact on the residents and the neighborhoods, relative to (naming but a few) an increase in traffic on the local roadways, a diminution in real estate property values, a possible threat to the many endangered species which thrive on the abutting reservoir (Suntaug Lake, the City of Peabody's water supply) and a threat to the reservoir itself. In addition, this will also have a negative impact the already overcrowded school system.
We have decided to retain an attorney that specializes in construction, zoning, and land use, to ensure that each step of the permitting process is in full compliance with the spectrum of state and federal regulations which control such a development.
Once a single special permit is granted to change the land use it will open the doors to all builders and allow them to obtain special permits as well. This may not affect you at the moment, but there are plenty of commercial lots in residential neighborhoods, the next one could be next door to your home. We have to stop this now before they turn our small town into a big city.
We are asking for local residents to contribute $500, but no amount is too small to make a difference.
100% of all contributions will go toward the retaining of our attorney.
