From Katelin Krueger...
It is with heavy hearts that we share that Aiden passed away last night after complications with his surgery. Aiden fought his fight up to the very end & was so brave. He truly was a warrior. We will forever be the Krueger Hat Trick family & will carry him in our hearts always.
More on their story...
Most know that Aiden is a heart warrior, but many don’t know his diagnosis. Aiden has L-TGA (or congenitally corrected TGA) - a rare congenital heart defect (CHD) where the major arteries of the heart & two lower chambers are both on opposite sides. In order to correct this, Aiden will need open heart surgery where he’ll be put on bypass & the surgeon will put the major arteries back where they should be & create pathways inside his heart so the blood flows to the correct chambers. 1 in 100 children born have CHD. Only 0.5% of those children have L-TGA.
We were expecting to not have to do this extensive surgery until Aiden was in grade school, however as with most things in our lives, there has been a sudden change of plans. We found out last week that Aiden will be having surgery within the next 6 months. Next month he’ll undergo an MRI & cardiac catheterization & we’ll schedule the surgery from there.
Tommy & I are doing what we usually do - holding each other up & making this as much of a positive situation as we can. There isn’t any anxiety or worry in Aiden’s world right now - this is the best time for him to go through this. Aiden is a strong-willed little boy with two amazing sidekicks- he’s going to be extraordinary. We’re holding all of the boys a bit tighter & planning on making this summer an extra special one.
