Yuji Kono's Eagle Scout Project

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

I am working on my Eagle Scout Project, which involves a forgotten corner of our village that I've often wondered about: the little burial ground on Boston Post Road, just past Sherwoods restaurant and behind the parking lot. It's currently overgrown and lacks any informational signage or bench.

I’m hoping to change that.

I have been working alongside Lynne Crowley, archivist at the Larchmont Historical Society, looking into the history of the burial ground. It’s really fascinating. It was founded by Samuel Palmer, the first known non-Native American settler in what is now the Village of Larchmont. He was a Quaker who came here seeking religious freedom from British rulers in the late 1600s. His home, which was also the Quaker meeting house, stood not far from the burial ground, near where the public library is now. People buried in this little cemetery include some of the earliest known families in what is now the Village of Larchmont.

My Eagle Project, which I’m hoping to complete this spring,  involves cleaning up the branches and overgrowth in the burial ground (without disturbing any of the tombstones or the mausoleum there). I’m also planning to install an informative historical sign (text to be approved by Lynne Crowley, archivist at the Larchmont Historical Society, Steve Altieri, Town Administrator of the Town of Mamaroneck, and Nancy Seligson, Town Supervisor of the Town of Mamaroneck), telling visitors a little about who is buried there and why the site is important. Third, I’m planning to install a bench there, with help and guidance from the Highway Department and Mr. Altieri. The Town of Mamaroneck will be providing concrete and gravel to install the bench and sign.

Before I can begin, though, I need to raise the money to make it happen. My goal is to raise $1500, to cover both the bench and the historical sign. I hope you will consider making some small donations toward this cause. My suggested donation is between $25 and $50, but any amount will be greatly appreciated. Any additional funds that are raised will go to the Larchmont Historical Society, which is working to preserve and share the history of our community.
