After my son Trevor beat cancer as a young child, I never imagined he would also experience the struggle of being wheelchair bound and learning to walk again.

On May 9, 2015, Trevor was carrying a steam cleaner down a flight of stairs for a friend and pinched a nerve in his back. Over the course of the next few days, the pain had traveled to his legs and feet, resulting in some numbness. This led him to fall twice, and he was taken by ambulance on May 14 (his 23rd birthday!) to Methodist Richardson Hospital. After an MRI of his lower back, it was determined he would need a microdiscectomy due to a bulging disc. Unfortunately, this was scheduled for five days out. Trevor was unable to walk or move his legs well at this time and was in turn bedridden. After five days, the microdiscectomy was performed. It was with great expectations that we all thought Trevor would be up and walking in 24 hours. Sadly, this was not the case. Trevor's legs were not affected by the surgery and the surgeon requested an MRI of Trevor's upper back. He was then diagnosed with thoracic myelopathy. There were 2 large bulging discs, one of which was compressing his spinal cord. He was immediately scheduled for a thoracic laminectomy. One week after being admitted, Trevor was operated on. We all hoped this would "fix" the paralysis in his legs. Although it helped slightly in Trevor's right leg and hips, he was still unable to move his left leg. Five weeks in Health South Rehabilitation Center followed. Trevor has worked tremendously hard on getting out of his wheelchair and is hoping to walk once again. He is now living outside of San Antonio with his father and receiving in home PT. 

My goal for this Go Fund Me account is to purchase a reputable laptop for Trevor to be able to work from home. At this time, working from home is his only option. Prior to this injury, Trevor was completely independent. He needs to feel success though this extreme struggle. Helping his family and building his confidence is necessary during his road to a full recovery. Being able to work from home will allow some independence in his current dependant life.

Trevor is showing improvements each and every day. However, his recovery will unfortunately take months. Thank you for taking the time to read Trevor's story. It is still being written.  Maybe he can also write his story on his much needed laptop and inspire others!
