Help us share young people’s voices at the UN

Donation protected
For the past 20 years, the Youth Representative program has sought to show the world how diverse young Australians really are and has helped give a voice to thousands of young people who have felt neglected or overlooked.

Appointed annually by UN Youth Australia and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations undertakes Australia's largest consultation of young people.

From some of the smallest communities of regional WA to the urban hearts of Sydney and Melbourne, the six-month Listening Tour is Australia's most comprehensive insight into what young Australians value and need in their communities.

We often talk about issues like climate change, health, economic inequality and the future of work. These are issues that affect all of us.
But no cohort in society will feel these effects more greatly than young people. Young people will inherit the consequences of the decisions that are being made today. It is therefore so important that they are able to participate in the decision-making process.

The UN Youth Rep has an unparalleled ability to put young peoples issues front and centre and ensure their voices are being heard. Through a nearly two-month posting within the Australian delegation to the United Nations in September and October, the needs of young people ring on the global stage. In November and December, the Youth Rep makes sure those voices are heard domestically by publishing a public, in-depth report, running events in Parliament and some of Australia's most comprehensive meetings between young people and their representatives.

And yet, the Youth Rep program is fundamentally grassroots. Funding is almost entirely from partnerships and donations, and even then the Youth Rep lives on a shoestring budget -- unpaid, and often sleeping on the couches of UN Youth's own volunteers.

That's why we need your help.

We want to get to more regional towns than ever before, we want to engage more young people than ever before and we want to build a movement so strong, our leaders will have no choice but to pay attention.

Big or small, your donation will help facilitate Australia's largest consultation of young people at a crucial time. There are few opportunities that have such a significant impact on young Australians.

Our movement is only just beginning. Stand with us as we stand with Australia's young people. Give change for youth-led change.
