Youth to Youth Fundraising Effort Through Music

Hello supporters! We, Annie (17) and Kelan (15), are siblings of the Chen family! We are first-generation Chinese Americans with immigrant parents from China, who run a small family business promoting Cantonese Opera in San Francisco Chinatown, making music an integral part of our lives. We both grew up surrounded by music, starting with singing Cantonese Opera, to playing the Chinese percussion, and now the violin and the Erhu. We both have been playing the violin for a few years and are now actively playing in the orchestra of our high school, St. Ignatius College Preparatory. Annie also plays the Erhu, a 2-stringed Chinese violin, winning 2nd place in the 2022 DunHuang Cup Erhu International Competition. Growing up in America as children of 4th generation Cantonese Opera musicians has deepened our understanding of connecting Western and Eastern music.
