Youre Gonna Hear Me Roar!! (Princess Hazel's Cancer Journey)

Donation protected
My name is Penelope. I am Hazel's grandma. On February 16th, Pop, Lily (my daughter), and I took Hazel to the emergency room after months of seeing her pediatrician and going to urgent care. During those visits she received so many common and not so common diagnosis and weird symptoms, that half the time made no sense. Then onset of having pain in her second arm though, made us think enough was enough. (The pain was from the cancer inside her bones) Answers were needed! Unfortunately, none of us were prepared for what we were about to hear. "You have one very sick little girl on your hands. Her labs are very abnormal and she must be transferred to Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. She has B Cell Lymphoblastic Luekemia (B-ALL). CANCER!!! Lily had to call Hazel's dad, Hunter. As mom and grandma, my heart sank. I felt so heart broken. To see Hazel's pale little face and know she was ready to fight for her life and her parents faces to find out their daughter has cancer. I wish this upon no one. Her blood and platelet numbers were so bad, they had to do blood transfusions in order to treat her cancer. Within 24 hours Hazel had an access port put in, a spinal tap with chemo, and a chemo infusion. She spent a week in the hospital repeating this process until they thought she was more at risk of infection or illness being there and home was safer. Hazel was so happy to leave! She had one day off before having to go to her first outpatient appointment. Her platelets were too low to treat her so she was given platelets. Then off to OR for another spinal tap with chemo and her chemo infusion. She is on heavy duty steroids and antibiotics to name a few. Her doctor informed us that she would he completely bald by the end of Phase 1 (March 18) of treatments. (She may be 3, but she IS a princess and this WILL upset her unfortunately) That will be the last day for steroids too. Phase 2 we may witness more chemo symptoms and weight loss. That scares us for her too! Everything is scary! We are learning as we go. So much has happened in 2 weeks! Her treatment will last at least 2 years. Tons of information to know! Its overwhelming to me... to all of us... but Lily and Hunter are really taking it all in and will do whatever it takes. If only love was enough to heal her... Everyone that meets Hazel ends up loving her. She is so witty and smart. She makes sure everyone feels included. She is funny and kind. She is a social butterfly. She is a princess and she wears that crown. She doesnt miss a beat, yet dances to the beat of her own drum. She is tough. Her smile is contagious. She is everyones bff. She is my hero! But now, she is sick, she is scared, she is confused, she is tired.... and I want to make sure her parents can be with her, comfort her, love her, support her, and protect her. They are a young family who struggled financially before Hazel's diagnosis. I dont want them to have to struggle worse than is inevitable. Im hoping this GoFundMe can help provide some security in knowing they can pay their bills, eat healthy food, get gas for the hospital trips (over an hour 1 way), repair their broken down vehicle(s), pay the emergency room bill, and any other neccessity that comes along. I must say one way they are blessed... Penn State will cover all treatments and hospital bills not covered by their health insurance at their hospital. Wow... thank God.
Also we are all blessed by all the prayers for Hazel. I know it helps! So if you are unable to donate, we appreciate those prayers too!! Keep them coming!
I will update with each new phase and post pics too to keep you posted.
I appreciate all of you. Though our family is going through some rough times. We are so blessed to have one another and blessed to have so many prayers. Love to all. ♥️ Always..
