Karl is a father, union worker, township trustee, and longtime community organizer from Joliet who is currently being targeted by the state because of his racial justice work in Will County.
Karl has continuously worked to correct injustices to improve the lives of people in Will County. Some of the causes he has worked on include:
organizing to demand justice for victims of police brutality, including working with Eric Lurry’s family to demand justice after Eric died while in custody of the Joliet police,
demanding justice for victims of hate crimes in Will County,
founded the Will County Central Democratic Black Caucus in 2020,
Founded Will County Black Live Matter,
organized a 24-7 Gun Violence Prevention program,
passing the Pretrial Fairness Act, a law that will end money bond in Illinois,
reducing pretrial incarceration in Will County, and
Working as an organizer with Equity and Transformation and the People’s Lobby.
He is currently being prosecuted on frivolous charges to tarnish his name and derail his organizing efforts but with your help he can beat this case and get back to focusing on supporting his family and helping his community. Karl’s legal fees are monumental; it will cost him nearly $40,000 to defend himself and he needs our help to raise $20,000.
With your support, we’re sure he can get through this!
