PURPOSE
Midday Movement Series ("MIDDAY") is a grassroots initiative creating a shift in Greater Boston's artistic and cultural identity by cultivating a new generation of dance leaders. Since 2015, MIDDAY has been doing big work to impact Boston's dance ecosystem by using principles of eco-conservation, including interconnectivity, ingenuity, and more. We center emerging dance teachers as "keystone artists" in our sector's landscape, creating far-reaching, long-lasting, and cumulative change as they flourish in their own unique journeys.

PRESENT
Right now, MIDDAY offers:
  • Weekly Dance Classes where we can invest both in Greater Boston's community of pre/professional dancers AND invest in emerging dance teachers as agents of change;
  • Mentorship & Consulting where we support choreographers, dance directors, and/or arts administrators in their own growth journeys while strengthening their potential as agents of impact across our sector;
  • Creative Action, a partnership with Studio@550, supporting arts advocacy and artists' civic engagment in Camberville and Boston;
  • BIPOC leadership that fights for social and racial justice & equity across genres and at all levels of the dance ecosystem;
  • Outreach Calls & Resource Shares promoting connection across the Greater Boston dance community
...and we have even more planned for 2022!

FUTURE
Next year, we'll unveil our community-developed resource, Decentering Whiteness in Contemporary Dance Pedagogy (supported by the Cambridge Arts Council and Cambridge Community Foundation), but we also have a bounty of other (currently unfunded) projects we are ready to get started...but we need your help to make them a reality!

Here's a peek at some of our goals for next year:
  • Informal Showing Series: Connecting audiences to works-in-progress, while giving choreographers the chance to develop their skills in asking for, receiving, and (if they choose) implementing feedback. Our goal is to host at least three showings next year at a different location each time - maybe even outdoors!
  • Choreographers Cohort Lab: We aim to provide a space for choreographers to meet consistently with a small group of peers to access greater artistic development, experimentation, and inspiration in an environment of camaraderie.
  • BIPOC Dancer Mentorships: We seek to support 4 BIPOC contemporary/modern dancers in their artistic development and professional sustainability by providing stipends for them to take class throughout Greater Boston, and providing mentorship to help them navigate, reimagine, and redesign our local sector through their own unique goals, activities, and values.

ACTION
We've honed and deepened our work over the past two years despite the continued upheavals from COVID-19 and systemic racism. If these pandemics have taught us anything, it's that we ALL need to pitch in to make a better world, and we at the grassroots level are more powerful than we know, especially when we work collectively. We Need You!

Please give as generously as you can: the more we raise now, the more we can focus on our work and on you, our community, in the year ahead! Once you've donated, share this campaign with friends and on social media so we can get the word out even more.

Thank you. We can't wait to engage and thrive with y'all in 2022!
