"Whoever saves the life of a person is as if he has saved the life of the whole of humankind" Surah Al-Ma'idah - 32
Dear all,
Our brothers and sisters in Gaza continue to endure unimaginable hardship under relentless bombardment. While we in Bangladesh are navigating our own struggles—rebuilding from the devastation of floods—let us not turn away from the suffering in Gaza, where innocent lives have been caught in the crossfire for nearly a year.
Omar Hamdan, a dear friend and fellow graduate of MCE'02 from Islamic University of Technology, has reached out to us in a time of desperate need. His family, like so many others, is trapped in Gaza. Omar lives with his two sons, elderly parents, and two sisters. Since the war began, their home has been destroyed, forcing them to move 11 times. They have narrowly escaped death on at least four occasions as missiles struck nearby buildings. They now find themselves living in tents on Gaza Beach, uncertain of what tomorrow will bring.
The only path to safety for Omar and his family is to cross the Egyptian border, with the hope of eventually finding refuge in Libya. However, this journey comes at a cost of $50,000—an amount that includes the $5,000 per person fee charged by the Egyptian authorities and additional travel expenses.
While we may not be able to save everyone affected by this tragedy, we have the power to change the fate of this one family. Let us come together in solidarity and compassion to help Omar and his loved ones escape the violence.
In these challenging times, our unity and collective action can make a life-saving difference.
