You and I Can Rebuild Baltimore!!!

Hello, my name is Bryant Muldrew. I am a passionate community organizer who has dedicated over 15 years of my life to promoting quality education and non-violent youth self-expression. I am still an active supporter of others continuing that work, but I have shifted my focus to affordable housing and access to quality food.

After approximately 13 years of teaching math, I switched to a career in carpentry by joining the local carpenters' union. Now I am launching this fundraiser to raise seed money for an organization I am calling the Baltimore Carpenters' Project to continue my community organizing work.

The Baltimore Carpenters’ Project (BCP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization of Baltimore City. BCP views revitalization as a holistic process which includes housing, public spaces, and the youth who will inherit the city. The mission of the BCP is to increase the availability of affordable safe housing in Baltimore City and to facilitate the development of young carpenters capable of continuing BCP’s work.

My goal is to use union carpenters to rehab, remodel, and rebuild vacant properties within the city and then sell the properties to Baltimoreans at affordable pricing. All revenue from sales will be used to purchase additional properties for rehabilitation. My goal is to establish a sustainable system that will eventually pay for itself.

Additionally, I believe our modern way of life is dependent upon carpenters who are capable of building and maintaining our infrastructure, industrial buildings, and residences. Consequently, my goal is to inspire and mentor the next generation of carpenters through youth-based programs by collaborating with schools, community organizations, and other interested parties. More about my goals and intentions can be found at www.bmorecarpenters.org. The website was established as a record of accountability and a tool to chronicle our work moving forward.

The purpose of the seed money is to fund the following:
  • Filing for nonprofit status with the IRS
  • Curriculum development for youth programming
  • Grant writing
  • Recruitment
  • The establishment of at least two new green spaces in Northwest Baltimore

I am not asking anyone to give thoughtless and I encourage you to go to our website to read about our vision, goals, and my personal motivation for this work. More details will be added to our website as the work continues. For immediate questions, feel free to email me.

Lastly, I want to quote an old cliche. "Many hands make for light work." There are over 500,000 residents in the city of Baltimore. If only 2,000 people give $10 each, then we can reach our goal in a short time. For those who know me, you know that my word is a sacred bond. For those who do not know me personally, I humbly ask for your trust and collaboration to rebuild Baltimore.
