York Families for Safe Streets

York Families for Safe Streets was formed to share ideas and information that could help us work together to improve the safety of our streets in the Town of York, NY.

A new 24-hour truck stop with a 6000 square-foot drive-thru facility for an eating and drinking establishment has been proposed for the north east corner of the Rt 63 and Rt 36 intersection. This project would sit on an 11.4 acre parcel (currently an open green space and forest) across the road from the current mini-mart. It would have 8 fueling stations for automobiles and two for tractor trailers and would have parking for 51 cars, 27 tractor trailers and include a truck scale.

The addition of traffic congestion, noise and air pollution less than 100 feet York Central School raises serious safety concerns for our entire community. Trucking and truckers, of course, are essential to our well being and are not the issue. It's the location of this facility in an already dangerous area that is the problem.

Donations received will be used to offset mounting expenses associated with making sure this heavily used area is a safe intersection for automobiles, trucks and pedestrians, while at the same time keeping the area historically and environmentally sound. Thank you!
