Yonas Amare was a student from Alemaya University English Language department class of 2002. He was born to an Ethiopian father and an Eritrean mother. He worked as a teacher in Wolaita Sodo for few years after graduation. His family had been divorced and his mom along with his grandmother were forced to go to Ertirea because of the outbreak of the war between the two countries. Yoni's condition of mental distrubance started at that time and he had no chance to avert his mom’s deportation. He didn’t even get a single chance to say goodbye. Once informed about this issue, Yonas immediately started to display post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He was unfortunate to get an early treatment.
One ordinary morning, a college-mate of Yonas heard his name (Natnael) being called repeatedly in a street of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. When he looked back, he faced with familiar yet strange face who can simply be described as mentally challenged. When looked carefully and heard his name, he recognized this person to be Yonas Amare, his college and classmate.
It was a moral duty for Natnael to fully understand the conditions of Yonas and call for help from all of his former friends and those who knew him. From prevoiuse medical diagnosis Yonas’s mental condition is medically treatable. The treatment is expected to last for two years. Though our contributions are enough for his medical treatment, we are short of budget for his other expenses. Due to the nature and duration of his treatment, we have no guarantee that Yonas will follow up his treatment regularly. He may go back to the street due to lack of basic needs. Please we who are his former classmates living abroad will appreciate if you all could contribute some money and lets see him back to his feet.
Thus, our intention is to accommodate and feed Yonas during his two years of medical treatment and for that we need a total of $10,000. We believe that Yonas can be treated by the help of professionals and friends around him visiting him. Eventually he will be able to help not only himself, but also others who are probably in the same condition as his.
