OUR STORY

Yogi and Cindy Bear’s are Newfoundland Dogs we specialize in Alternative Therapy with Animals AAA Animal Assist Activity / Therapy dogs, along with trained in Water Rescue.

We provide an alternative type of therapy to medications that come under the realm of Animal Assisted Intervention.

Our Community Dog program Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) techniques. This is the term given to interventions where a specially-trained dog and professional handler work together, in conjunction with a human services professional (eg therapist, social care practitioner, teacher or healthcare provider) to promote improvements in the physical, social, emotional and/or cognitive functioning of a person.

These interventions are designed to meet particular goals to support that individual’s needs. Goals can be very varied and may include helping a client with:

  • Working with companies and staff dealing with pressure work to prevent falling into Mental Ill Health.
  • Building self-esteem
  • Overcoming anxiety and building confidence
  • Accessing the community
  • Social interaction with others
  • Responsibility
  • Physical mobility, eg fine and gross motor skills
  • Changing patterns of behavior

We work with both adults and children across a wide range of client groups including autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, rehabilitation needs, mental health conditions, social isolation and dementia.

We have worked in several environments such as schools, colleges, hospitals, corporate companies and the wider community. Our work is undertaken with a range of collaborative partners including local authorities, specialist charities, education providers and health providers.

As we continue to develop our Community Dog program, we can bring our services and knowledge to a greater number of people who can be helped in small one-to-one sessions or feel the benefits of working in small groups.

FUNDING

Yogi and Cindy along with carrying out voluntary Animal Assisted Activity / Therapy work, we also provide voluntary specialised Water Rescue services keeping the public safe on Surf Rescue patrol along with sea rescue. The cost of the equipment, training and travel is expensive, so part of the funding will go towards:

  • Fuel/travel expenses
  • land/water training
  • equipment
