Support for the Babcock "Boys" It takes a Village!

Hello, I am Nancy Powers (formerly Hacker) family friend of Sue Ward Babcock(Pearl River, NY) who sadly passed away after a long struggle from a stroke in September 2023. Her death was preceded by the sudden death of her husband Rick Babcock in 2018, leaving these young men with no parental support. Neither Sue or Rick had life insurance leaving minimal funds to help support these young men to transition to be self-sufficient. I am starting this GoFundMe to help supplement their rent and basic life needs until Jeffrey and Dylan can both find full time jobs.
Sue went into the hospital in June 2022. She was a waitress at Martio's in Nanuet for over 30 years and sadly lost her job when the Covid pandemic lockdown started in 2020 and was never hired back. She used the pandemic support as well as an inheritance from the sale of her Mother's house after her death in 2018 to keep her and her children afloat. When she went into the hospital the boys had no access to her funds to keep up the rent/utilities and household needs. Both boys have part time jobs at a little over minimum wage that left them in jeopardy of losing their home. It took survival ingenuity by Jeffrey who reached out to the Bar Association of Rockland County . Here he was able to obtain Pro-Bono representation to obtain legal guardianship of her accounts to help finally get them out of debt and maintain a roof over their heads. This was in September 2022 where there was only a small percentage left and months of bills that needed to be back paid. This was quite a feat for someone with development deficiencies and psychological disorders. The money only supported them until the summer of 2023 when they once again fell behind in bills. We had a GoFundMe out in September of 2023 which helped them with back rent/bills to keep them afloat. They have no real family support and this is when I stepped up to be an "adult advisor " to help support them on their journey to self sufficiency.
Now about the "Boys" Both Jeffrey and Dylan were born with developmental disabilities. Dylan with hydrocephalus and Jeffrey needing multiple skull surgeries that have left them with both developmental and psychological disorders. Both of these young men, Jeffrey now 23 and Dylan now 20, work part-time jobs. Jeffrey at Rockland County Community College and Dylan at KFC in Pearl River. Despite the disadvantages they were born with and the difficult life they have endured, they are trying their best to make ends meet but they are struggling to keep things going. I have reached out to funding programs to help them- basically to no avail.
I have been involved with the two young men since the passing of their mother September 2023. I go to their house at least once a week to check in and go over needs and speak /text with them daily. When I first went to their house I found out that Jeffrey has been sleeping on a couch for the past 12 years as he never had an actual bed. Also, the bed that Dylan was sleeping was broken and the mattress was black. I paid for them to get new beds & mattresses, a vacuum and have assisted financially with getting the car transferred to Jeffrey. I also am closely involved with their therapist and communicate with her regularly about strategies to help Jeffrey and Dylan grow emotionally to support their eventual independence. They truly need help. The goal for Jeffrey is to graduate this May with a degree in cyber security and graphic design. He should be able to get a full time job. I have helped Dylan get to job fairs to apply for full time work .. that will remain ongoing.
So please, if you find it in your heart to support these "boys" we would be extremely grateful. It does take a village to help support each and every one of us! The funds will be dispersed through me to assist with rent and needs in the hopes that they soon will have learned good life skills and move on to jobs that will support their independence. I won't give up on them!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Feel free to pm me with any questions regarding these funds. ♥️
