Lori Pierson passed away unexpectedly on July 25th leaving behind her son, Douglas Howard. Those of you who knew Lori are aware of how much she loved and cherished Doug. As a special needs adult, Lori did everything for him. Now, Doug has to learn to take care of himself and his home.
Lori had been in poor health for some time and a couple of years ago she fractured her back in a fall and was unable to keep up with much-needed repairs to their mobile home (both the refrigerator and the range no longer work, carpet and furniture need to be replaced due to being soiled by the many rescue pets she took in over the years and the interior needs sealed and painted). Lori tried to make ends meet on her and Doug's disability payments but it wasn't always enough. The money from this fundraiser will be used to help Doug pay off Lori's debts (cremation, several small loans, one credit card & medical bills) temporarily meet monthly expenses and to help him make much-needed repairs to the home.
Lori was a remarkable human. She was always ready to meet each day with a smile and looked for opportunities to help others. She loved to laugh and although she didn't have many friends visit, she cherished the many phone and online conversations she had with them. Lori rarely asked for help herself and often would put her own needs behind those of others. Her love of all animals was legendary. Being kind was her superpower and it lifted her up. She was also an adoring mother and Doug was the sunshine of her life.
Doug's journey without his mom by his side is going to be hard, but with help, he will find his way and discover meaning and purpose as he navigates the challenges and learns the skills of living independently. Thank you for considering helping Doug at this time, even sharing this GoFundMe campaign on your social media accounts is another way to help. Any assistance at all is appreciated far more than you may know.
